Vision & Development
Heart Space began with a desire to create a peaceful place where people could live more closely connected to nature.
Set on one hectare of tropical land in Pérez Zeledón, the project brings together three foundations of wellbeing: a place to stay, food grown from the land and the joy of physical movement.
The aim is not to create a large resort or crowded retreat centre. Heart Space will remain small, personal and close to the character of the land.
Why Heart Space
Modern life can leave us surrounded by convenience but disconnected from many of the things that sustain us: time outdoors, nourishing food, movement, quiet and meaningful human connection.
Heart Space offers a different rhythm. Some people may come to rest, others to participate, learn practical skills or experience skateboarding. The activities may differ, but the intention remains the same: to help people become more present, active and connected.
CREATING A SIMPLE PLACE TO BELONG
One small home currently stands on the property and serves as Corey’s private residence. The next major step is to build the first dedicated guest cabin, allowing Heart Space to welcome overnight guests while preserving the privacy of the existing home.
The first cabin is currently planned for 2027. Over time, the vision includes three small cabins, a camping or glamping area and shared spaces for food and community.
The accommodation will be simple, clean and affordable rather than luxurious. It is intended for people who appreciate quiet, nature and a more conscious rhythm of life.
Stay

WHY THE FIRST CABIN MATTERS
The first guest cabin will also create Heart Space’s earliest regular source of income.
Income from accommodation can help care for the property, fund further development and gradually reduce the project’s dependence on donations and Corey’s work in Switzerland.
Current status: No overnight guest accommodation is available yet.
Next step: Secure funding and complete the first guest cabin.

Grow
From planted land to an abundant garden
Food growing is already part of Heart Space. Around 80 fruit trees, along with herbs and other edible plants, form the beginning of a more abundant growing system.
The immediate goal is to care for what has already been planted, improve water management, complete the greenhouse and increase the amount of food the land can provide.

Fresh fruit, herbs and other produce may eventually contribute to meals for residents and guests. Visitors and collaborators may also participate in planting, harvesting, preparing food and exchanging practical knowledge.
Corey is developing his permaculture knowledge through practice. Heart Space is therefore not an established permaculture school, but a living project where people can learn and contribute together.
Current status: Fruit trees, herbs and the first growing areas are established.
Next step: Complete the water and greenhouse systems and strengthen the overall growing plan.
Move
Carrying forward a lifelong relationship with skateboarding
For more than 20 years, Corey has introduced young people and beginners to skateboarding, helping them build balance, confidence, persistence and courage.
At Heart Space, skateboarding is not simply an additional activity. It is Corey’s most personal contribution to the project and another way of creating joy, movement and human connection.
The mini-ramp vision
A mini ramp is planned for beginners, guests, surfers and local or international skaters.
It could support introductory lessons, practice sessions, small skate camps and positive encounters between people who share a love of movement.
The ramp has been designed and is currently in the fundraising stage. Heart Space aims to raise USD 25,000 for materials, construction, maintenance and essential protective equipment.
Current status: Corey can already offer skateboarding knowledge and instruction, but the mini ramp does not yet exist.
Next step: Raise the required funds and prepare for construction.
Development
The next phase
The main priorities for the coming year are to:
-
Complete the water system, greenhouse, roads and pathways
-
Build the first dedicated guest cabin
-
Fund and construct the mini ramp
-
Continue caring for and improving the land
-
Develop the right practical and financial partnerships
Each completed step supports the next. Essential infrastructure prepares the property for guests. The first cabin creates income. That income can help sustain the land and support future activities.
The longer-term direction
As Heart Space develops, the vision includes additional cabins, simple camping, greater food production, skateboarding activities, small workshops and opportunities for longer stays.
Growth will remain gradual and intentionally limited. The purpose is not to make Heart Space as large or profitable as possible, but to create a stable foundation from which the land, the people involved and the wider mission can be responsibly supported.
Guided by care
Heart Space is rooted in respect for nature, simplicity, movement, responsibility and genuine human connection.
Corey’s Christian faith shapes the project’s understanding of creation, humility and care for others. Heart Space is intended to be welcoming while remaining grounded in these values.
Help build what comes next
The next phase will require practical knowledge, financial support and aligned collaborators.
If you recognise yourself in the vision, there may be a meaningful way for you to take part.
